Swedes seem to be really proud of their museums as there is a great variety of displayed subjects from toys to ships. The admission is either free or really low. In the picturesque city of Stockholm there are about 100 museums to choose from and here are the top ones to visit.

Skansen

It is a great first open-air museum in the world with the countryside, town quarter, parks, gardens and other buildings. It is open to visitors all year round. Located on the green Djurgården Island, the museum provides the visitors with all kinds of entertainment: folk dances, concerts and songs.

The Vasa Museum (Vasamuseet)

The Vasa Museum’s task is to ensure that the Vasa ship is preserved in a good condition. It will not be preserved forever, but the task is to do it as long as possible. It is a complicated process as the ship consists of several connected parts and the structure should be supported properly and the necessary temperature should be maintained.

The Swedish Museum of Natural History (Naturhistoriska)

The Museum of natural history is a perfect place for nature and astronomy lovers. There are lots of guided tours and lectures to visit.

The Museum of Modern Art (Moderna)

The National Museum of Science and Technology (Tekniska)

The museum was opened in 1936 and since then it has been visited by millions of people willing to understand the technology in modern society. In the museum it is possible to touch and to feel the technology as there are lots of breathtaking exhibitions as well as the exhibition on space.

The Museum of Asian Art (Östasiatiska)

First of all, the museum is situated in a very picturesque place on a small island in the middle of Stockholm. It houses collections from Asia. There are Chinese paintings, Indian and Buddhist sculptures there.

The Museum of Mediterranean and Near Eastern Antiquities (Medelhavsmuseet)

It is one of the few museums in the world that houses the most important archeological collections in the time of the Mediterranean countries. The museum collection includes mummy cases, marbles and sculptures.  There is also a Gold Room in the museum with ancient jewelry from silver and gold.

Royal Armory (Livrustkammaren)

Livrustkammaren is the oldest museum in Sweden. Royal Armory has been exhibited in many different places in Sweden, but it later was decided to be established as a National Museum. It is the best place to feel history and its dramatic events. Unique collections of Royal Armory make it a fantastic museum.
