Fishing in Stockholm is like nowhere else in the world. First of all you can fish right in the middle of the city. Surrounding by aged historical buildings, churches, monuments you can walk to the central quay and enjoy your favorite kind of sport.
Fishing in Stockholm is different from fishing in any other city. Many fish and few fishers. The most popular types are flyfishing and spinning.
The city has absolutely beautiful lakes. Altogether, there are more than 30 of them. For those who want to go fishing in these lakes, there is a special fisher map that is called “Sportfiskekort”. It costs 150 Swedish crones. It can be bought in any fishing store that are placed near the lakes. If you want to go fishing in the sea waters, you can feel free to choose a spot because you don’t need any special permission.
It can be only in Stockholm where people catch fish in the middle of the city. Salmon, char can be caught right in front of the Stockholm’s architectural masterpiece – Royal Palace.
It is important to remember that Swedish are very picky in fishing. They would never get up at 4 a.m. in order to get fish. Their fishing is just like their life: calm, thoughtful and steadily. Another thing is that local people do not consider white fish as fish. They don’t eat it and even don’t catch it. So, if you are not Swedish and if you eat tench, crucian, red-eye and jackfish, Stockholm will become the best place for you to take fish.
One more thing about Stockholm fishing: Swedish people have one interesting fishing tradition- they start fishing in a place where salmon jumped. Such lakes and rivers are preferable for Stockholm people. Such rivers and lakes require special pass for the entrance. The price of the pass is about 40-60 crones. If you want to fish in the sea waters– you don’t need any special permission. The only restriction is that you cannot catch fish near the private moorage.
