If you’re heading to Stockholm for vacation, you may be wondering what it has to offer. The answer is a lot. Keep reading to find out what museums and landmarks to see, outdoor sites to venture, performances to be entertained by and more.

Museums

Stockholm has a wealth of popular museums for you to head to to get a taste of art and history. Want to see a shipwreck up close and personal? Head to Vasa Museum, but if you’re bigger on photography then you may prefer Fotografiska. If you’d rather learn about Vikings, then you can go to the Museum of National Antiquities. Stockholm has plenty more to offer as well, so just brose through all of the museums you can and pick which ones you want to visit. The truth is that you can see one every day of your trip and still want more!

Landmarks

While you’re out an about for the day, you’ll want to get some photos of some landmarks, as well as experience the history and culture of them for yourself. If you’d like a beautiful view of Stockholm, go to Fjallgatan, and if you’d like to see a beautiful religious site, go to Stockholm Cathedral. The Great Synagogue of Stockholm is another photoworthy site and Hay Market is an outdoor food market to stop by along the way to almost any of these sites.

Norrmalm

Norrmalm is where you should go to simply be alongside natives instead of tourists, and get a taste of the culture and heritage that Stockholm has to offer. Shop at the shops and eat at the restaurants, where you’ll find some excellent Swedish cuisine. For more cultural sites check out Biblioteca dell’Accademia, Ostermalm, the Parliament Building and Riddarholm Church.

Walking

For a day outside take a walk though The Old Town, which is one of the more historical parts of the city for you to see, and also take a trip down the Stockholm Canals via boat. Rosendal’s Garden is a wonderful place to explore if you’re in the mood to see the green and Lake Malaren is the perfect place to settle down and relax to watch the sunset. If you’re in the mood for some beach life, head over to Langholmen to live it up and even go sailing. There’s plenty of outdoor activity to be had in Stockholm, all you have to do is know where to find it!

Junibacken

Take a trip back to your childhood (and take your children with you) when you go to Junibacken, the children’s museum. Don’t undermine it! It’s one of the top visited attractions in Sweden, and a definite site to see for yourself. It’s a great way to get a taste of Swedish culture and children’s literature, and more. You’ll see plenty of fantastic sites and have a great time, likely leaving feeling young again.

Stockholm Globe Arena

The arena is open year round for plenty of sporting events. If you would like to see how the Swedish play at some time other than the Olympics, then this is the place for you to be. Be sure to get tickets early for your chosen event, because they mey not be available if you wait too long!

Entertainment

For a good taste of some live entertainment take your pick. You can go to the opera House, or you can head over to Regina Theatre. If you’d rather take the amusement park route, feel free to travel over to Grona Lunds Tivoli, or if you prefer symphonies check out The Stockholm Concert Hall. Any of these places will surely be able to provide the perfect live entertainment experience, giving you exactly what you’re looking for.

Nightlife & Shopping

For the Stockholm nightlife, go to a jazz bar like Jazzpuben Stampen, or maybe Stockholm’s very own Hard Rock Café to get a taste of it Swedish style. The Cadier Bar is another good choice if you want a beautiful setting, good music and good drinks, and Berns Salonger is where you should head if you’d like to dance the night away.

If you’d rather shop, go to Ostermalm Saluhall or Old Haymarket for a first hand look at what a Swedish flea market is like, and some food as well. For other shopping experiences, go to Nordiska Kompaniet, Svenskt Tenn and Emmaus Vintage Shop.

Stockholm has a lot to offer for every visitor. From museums to outdoor experiences, to nightlife and shopping there’s no way you can head to Stockholm for your vacation and feel like you wasted even a second with so much to see and do.

If you’re considering a Swedish experience, Stockholm should be your first choice, because going home afterward could very likely end up a last resort considering how much travelers love the city.
