Swiss capital stands on several islands. Despite such a landscape, Stockholm managed to build a fine and a huge multifunctional net of public transport. There are several ways of getting around the city that will keep your budget safe.

Buses, Trolleys, Subway

City public transport includes trolleys, trams, buses, a subway and some suburban trains and ferries.  Its extent amazes: Stockholm has 450 bus ways – which is one of the largest transportation nets in the world. But bear in mind that some of the buses go only during the rush hour.

City subway is a real piece of art. One line was decorated by the best designers that made the subway a real museum of Modern art which is in fact called the world biggest art gallery.  Stockholm subway consists of 4 lines that opens in 5 o’clock am and closes at midnight.

Tickets

Stockholm territory is divided into 3 zones – A, B, C. The payment is done by the special coupons. If use the third zone – C, you will need 2 coupons, for A and B zones you will need only one. You can use all three lines if you have 4 coupons but only for two hours. One ticket costs 20 Swiss crones which is 2 Euros, a package that consists of 16 coupons costs is 19 Euros. There are also box machines that allow you to buy single-ride ticket: 3 Euros for one zone and 6 for 3 zones. If you are planning to stay longer you can buy a travel card for 1, 3 or 7 days for 4 and 6 Euros.

Pay attention that tickets cannot be bought from a bus driver; they should be bought in advance in Sl-centers, on subway stations and press kiosks “Pressbyrå”.

If you are thinking about visiting museums in Stockholm, the best thing you can do to save money is to buy a Stockholm card.  Today these “guest maps” are very popular and are used all over the world. This way, you won’t need to worry about standing in lines for tickets and you will also get a discount in many restaurants and cafes.

Bicycle

Another rather interesting and healthy way of getting around the city is to rent a bicycle. Stockholm has its own system of automatic bicycle rent. You can simply take it in one of the parking and return on another. To use such an innovative rent you will need to buy a special card in Sl-centers. The maximum time of rent is 3 hours than you will have to return it to one of the parking and if needed take another. The price for the card for 3 days is 13 Euros, and a season card that can be used from April 1st till October 31st is 26 Euros. All bike rents work from 6am till 10 pm.

Taxi

The last and the most comfortable way of travelling in Stockholm is by a taxi. There are several taxi companies. You can call for it, take from a parking or catch it on the street. The prices vary. If you want to order it to the airport ( Arlanda) it will cost you about 45-52 Euros.

As you see, there are many ways of getting around Stockholm but the only thing they have in common is high quality and friendly service.
