If to talk about theaters, in Stockholm the first and the most important theater ia the Royal Opera house. It was built in 1782 in the center of the city. The first Swedish troop to perform in the Royal Opera House was formed by Gustavo III who was known as a great lover of art and music. The project of the favorite theater for his majesty was honorary given to one of the most prominent architect Carl Adelkrantz who did his best to create one of the most luxurious buildings in the country. The entrance of the Royal Theater is decorated with a Corinthian portico and 4 muses. In 1892 the Opera was demolished to build a new one. It was finished in 7 years by Axel Adenberg. Though, the building was changed it has saved its original luxurious look. The theater has seen many stars on its stage such as  Jussi Björling, Nicolai Gedda, GöstaWinbergh and Nina Stemme. The orchestra of the Royal Theater has performed since 1526. The Swedish Royal family keeps their seats in the royal box of the thater and visits it regularly.

One more theater that represents theatrical culture in Stockholm is the Royal Drama Theater. It was found in 1788 and refers to the best “spoken drama”. It was built by Fredrick Lilljekvist. It has a grand style that perfectly suits Stockholm architecture. The building itself is a real masterpiece, it has fancy decorations that have interesting little details. Today it is highly visited both by locals and foreigners. The theater gives more than 1000 performances a year. It also has a drama school that raised world famous actors who are recognized all over Europe.

Though this theater is situated outside Stockholm it is worth checking out. It is called Drottningholm Court Theater. It is situated in the Royal Park, which is a site of the World heritage UNESCO. The theater is truly unique. It is beautifully decorated with ornaments of XVIII century. It is interesting that all mechanical works on the stage have been also working for 200 years. The theater is believed to have the best actor troop in the entire Sweden.  It performs both operas and ballets. Performances are given mostly in summer (May- September) that makes it different from the rest of the theaters that are usually closed at this time.
