Stockholm is a capital of Sweden and one of the most beautiful major cities in the world. It spreads out over 14 islands connected by more than 50 bridges. Surrounding the city are the 30 000 islands creating the archipelago – the pride and joy of every Stockholmer.

Stockholm is the most populous city in Sweden, its population is about 865 424 people. The Stockholm region is home to almost 22% of Sweden's total population.

Stockholm is not the oldest city in the country but it became a national center pretty fast mainly thanks to its strategic location between the Baltic Sea and lake Mälaren. It is media, cultural, economic and political center of the country.

The city’s terracotta-colored buildings, palaces and museums tell the 750 year-old history of Sweden’s capital. The city boasts of buildings from all ages since the 15th century. The main Stockholm’s advantage for tourists however is that the majority of attractions can be reached on foot. Strolling through the streets of an old city – Gamla Stan – you will have an opportunity to explore the best preserved medieval city center in the world. Its winding streets with cafes, art galleries and antiques won’t leave you indifferent. Stockholm Cathedral and the Royal Palace are the main attractions located within the Gamla Stan.

Stockholm is a vibrant, modern city with world-class nightclubs, good restaurants, edgy fashion and great opportunities for shopping.

Proximity to the water, greenery and fresh air are the distinctive traits of Sweden’s capital which is home to the first National City Park in the world – The Royal National City Park.  As the heavy industry is almost absent in Stockholm, the city is one of the world’s cleanest metropolises.

For a great view of the city climb up the City Hall tower which is 106 meters tall. The City Hall is open to general public. There are assembly rooms, session halls and offices.  Guided tours are held every day both in Swedish and English.
Visit one of the oldest open-air museums in the world called Skansen, it is a great opportunity to see the old Sweden in miniature.  Here are more than 150 farms, workshops, wooden churches and shops. It is the best place for getting to know Swedish history. The museum is a great day out with the whole family as there is also a zoo for kids with different kinds of animals such as wolves, bears, seals and others.

The view of Stockholm from the water is probably the most astonishing and experiencing it is a must. There are a lot of different kinds tours to choose from, so don’t forget to pic the one you like the most.
