The weather and climate in Stockholm, Sweden is characteristically like those of most northern European cities. The city experiences a very varied series of climate conditions throughout the year, complete with snow-laden winters, windy and sleet fallen autumns, mild fresh springs and an even milder, warmer summer.
January and February are the coolest months of the year in the City of Stockholm, Sweden. Heavy snow fall and low temperatures are usually experienced during these months while more rain fall and more sunny days can be slowly experienced during March and April.
The month of April in Stockholm welcomes the coming of spring and the gentle sloping hills and flowery parks of Stockholm regain their colors with the blossoming of flowers and the awakening of leaves in the trees.
The summer season in Stockholm slowly creeps in around the end of May. June and July would be the warmest months experienced in the city and water sports along the Baltic Sea and Lake Malaren become very popular among tourists and locals. Many festivals and outdoor activities are also held during these months including the famous Midsummer Day celebrations or Summer Solstice. Stockholm’s weather conditions during summer feature plenty of hours of daylight and mild rain fall.
It is interesting to note that Stockholm’s climate is so diverse that there could be several days in winter when daylight can be as short as six to seven hours while it can last as long as eighteen hours during summer. On summer solstice, the sun can rise as early as 3:30 in the morning and set as late as 10 at night marking the longest day of the year in Stockholm, Sweden.
By September, the warmth of the summer has already faded and the leaves start to change into warmer colors. As the month of October approaches, more and more of these now gold and rust-colored leaves start to fall and the air becomes cooler as winter trudges along again.
