Den Gyldene Freden restaurant is known all over Europe as the oldest restaurant in the world that managed to save its originality; outlook and the nearby surroundings. The surroundings and the restaurant are believed to be the same as they used to be in the XVIII century. This fact was approved by the Guinness Records Book. It was built in 1722. The name comes from a legendary peace of Nystad, which was the last peace treaty of Northern war. The treaty was set between 2 powerful countries Russian and Swedish empires. Nystad’s peace let Russians have most of the provinces and Swedish managed to keep the lands of Finland.
The restaurant is also known for being the most luxurious place in Stockholm of all times. Some people say it was a place of gathering for Nobel Prize jury from Swedish academy, who decided the winner over the glass of delicious wine.
